San Antonio Firearms Dealer Defense
The Good News in Defending Firearms Dealers!
Many of the lawyers representing the ATFE are inexperienced trial lawyers, who know (or care) little about firearms.
Therein lies the secret. Thorough preparation and a vast store house of information about firearms is the secret to a successful defense.

Requirements for Texas Firearms Dealers
Firearms dealers above a certain level must have a Federal Firearms License (FFL) (or sometimes a Federal Collector's License) to sell guns. Violations of the complex regulations under which Federally licensed dealers must operate can lead to a hearing seeking revocation of one's Federal Firearm's License, and sometimes the proceeding is used to build a federal criminal prosecution. At our San Antonio law firm, the Law Offices of Ray Taylor & Associates, P.C., we defend FFL holders charged with firearms dealer violations and State and Federal crimes.
Texas Firearm Dealer Violations
These laws and regulations are administered by the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATFE). Once a dealer has the required license, a dealer must record each sale on federal form 4473. This identifies the weapon, documents the sale, and records the make, model and serial number of the gun. The government may punish violations of these record-keeping requirements with a fine, license revocation, and prison time.
We also defend gun dealers against charges of:
- Falsifying license applications
- Selling to people barred from purchasing firearms
- Selling or possessing fully automatic weapons (Class III weapons)
- Selling or possessing a firearms silencer
- Being an unlicensed gun dealer
- Confiscation or forfeiture of firearms
